چکیده

As reported in Afifi, Asmundson, Taylor and Jang (2010), lifetime prevalence rates range from 64% to 90% for experiences of trauma and 1.4% to 11.2 % for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Although the majority of the population will be affected by trauma at some point in their life, the impact of these experiences will vary depending on the nature of the trauma, person and family characteristics, and available formal and informal resources accessed. Among the more severe effects is the development of PTSD.

P38: The Immunoregulatory Effect of Cyclic Dinucleotides on Human Immune Cells

In multiple sclerosis (MS) beneficial effects have been assigned to the interferon (IFN)-I subclass IFN-ß, making its administration a first-line disease-modifying treatment in MS. IFN-I responses can be induced by cyclic-dinucleotide (CDN) triggered activation of Stimulator-of-interferon-genes (STING) and have essential immunomodulatory effects. A beneficial effect of STING activation on...

P 43: The Role of TWIK2 Channels on Immune Cells and its Impact in EAE/ MS Pathophysiology

TWIK2 ion channels (K2P6.1, encoded by a gene named Kcnk6) belong to the family of two-pore domain potassium channels. TWIK2 is also considered as a “silent” channel because of its inability to produce measurable currents in heterologous expression systems and its intracellular retention. It is expressed in different mammalian tissues including lymphoid organs and the vascular syste...

Acute cervical hyperextension-hyperflexion injury may precipitate and/or exacerbate symptomatic multiple sclerosis.

We report here 39 cases in which definite multiple sclerosis (MS) was precipitated or exacerbated by specific hyperextension-hyperflexion cervical cord trauma. The worsening or onset of the symptomatic disease bore a striking temporal relationship to the focal injury. Our data suggests that central nervous system (CNS)-specific acute physical trauma such as cervical cord hyperextension-hyperfle...
